About Charleston Visitor Guide

Real recommendations from someone who actually lives here.

Alex H.

Charleston Local

I've called Charleston home for years now. What started as a personal list of tour recommendations for visiting friends turned into this guide. I've taken dozens of tours, eaten at hundreds of restaurants, and explored every corner of this city—from the obvious landmarks to the spots only locals know.

Why I Created This Guide

Every time friends or family visit Charleston, they ask the same questions: Which ghost tour is actually scary? Is the food tour worth it? Which plantation should we visit? I found myself sending the same long emails with recommendations over and over.

So I built this site. It's the guide I wish I'd had when I first moved here—honest assessments of what's genuinely worth your time and money, written by someone who doesn't get paid to say nice things.

I've personally taken every type of tour I recommend. When I write that the Bulldog Tours jail tour is scarier than the walking tours, it's because I've done both. When I say the Upper King Street food tour stops are better than the French Quarter ones, it's from actual tastings. No press releases, no paid partnerships—just genuine opinions from spending years exploring this city.
